Mesirow is seeking a highly motivated Fund Accountant to join our Institutional Real Estate Direct Investments team on a full-time basis. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a cohesive and experienced team that has worked together for over 15 years managing diversified multifamily real estate portfolios through multiple market cycles.
Our team specializes in value-add strategies, aiming to deliver attractive risk-adjusted returns by investing across all phases of the real estate life cycle. We create distinct portfolios of U.S. multifamily assets, thoughtfully diversified by region, asset type, vintage year, and metropolitan market.
As a Fund Accountant, you will play a critical role in managing and reconciling financial transactions within investment funds including tracking assets, calculating net asset values, preparing financial statements, investor reporting, and audit and tax compliance. This position offers long-term career development within a dynamic and growing platform.
Responsibilities: •Assist in the preparation of consolidated quarterly financial statements for investment fund entities and customized reporting packages for institutional limited partners •Manage monthly close activities, including general ledger reconciliations, cash tracking, and wire transfers from fund-level reserves •Support quarterly investor reporting by coordinating responses to investment consultant data requests and questionnaires •Analyze portfolio-level operating results, budget variances, and net cash flow distributions to provide actionable insights •Assist in preparing annualized income projections, fixed asset schedules, and quarterly REIT compliance calculations, as well as data for state tax filings •Contribute to acquisition and disposition processes by performing proration calculations and supporting related financial analyses •Participate in year-end audits and coordinate the preparation of tax return data
Requirements: •Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required •Bachelor's degree in accounting •2-3 years of partnership accounting experience, ideally in a corporate setting •Exposure to real estate accounting and prior audit experience preferred •Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word •Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics SL and/or Yardi a plus •Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment •Strong interpersonal and written communication skills •Exceptional attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to analyze financial data and trends
In accordance with the Illinois Pay Transparency Law, the anticipated hiring base salary for the role will be between $80,000 and $110,000 per year. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, also provides the opportunity for a performance based bonus and the Mesirow benefit program.
