Overview
Walmart US Finance Data & Intelligence is hiring! We are seeking a dynamic data scientist who understands the intersection of business process and technological innovation. Our team builds solutions that propel the business forward across time-series forecasting and Generative AI, giving you opportunities to tackle challenges in Supply Chain, Operations, Merchandising, and Customer. Why This Role Exists
Our Finance D&I organization is evolving its technical/analytics pillar to accelerate Walmart US's next wave of growth. As a senior individual contributor, you will work centrally across the organization to design high-impact forecasting models and Generative AI solutions that shape decisions on prices, inventory, contribution profit, and emerging platforms such as Olympus. What You'll Do
Forecasting & Applied ML
Own end-to-end development of predictive models for time series that are critical to Finance. Drive continuous accuracy improvement through feature engineering, probabilistic modeling, and experimentation. Design and implement deep-learning forecasting models (e.g., temporal convolutional networks, seq-to-seq architectures) that reduce analyst touch-time and unlock scalable automation. Generative AI Innovation
Prototype and implement LLM-based tools that simplify finance workflows (e.g., automated commentary, scenario generation, anomaly explanations). Evaluate vendor models vs. bespoke training; establish guardrails for responsible AI. Prototype GenAI solutions that replace manual commentary with insight-on-demand workflows across the Finance ecosystem, accelerating our shift to data- and intelligence-driven processes. Strategic Influence
Translate complex insights into clear recommendations for Finance leadership, Merchandising, and Supply Chain. Partner with the new Transformational Platforms director to embed DS products into Olympus and other enterprise initiatives. Work hand-in-hand with functional partners and Finance D&I peers to align model outputs with real-world decision points and KPI ownership. Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Finance) or equivalent practical experience. Advanced degrees are welcome but not required. Experience
5+ years applying machine-learning or advanced analytics to solve business and financial problems; proven ability to turn technical work into measurable business impact. Domain & Business Insight
Demonstrated success working at the intersection of data, finance, and operations; comfort partnering with Finance stakeholders on P&L-critical use cases. Technical Toolkit
Proficiency in Python and SQL, familiarity with ML/LLM frameworks. Collaboration & Influence
Strong track record driving cross-functional initiatives with analysts, engineers, and business partners to accelerate solution adoption. Benefits & Location
Bentonville-hybrid (relocation offered) or remote within the U.S. Central time zone. Competitive base + annual cash bonus + equity. 401(k) with company match, comprehensive health coverage, parental leave, and Walmart stock purchase plan.
