- Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
- Manages new accounts daily by working within Receivables Workstation; interfaces with other hospital departments to obtain necessary information for claims processing or resolution; contacts patients or account guarantors to solicit payment.
- Works all accounts in the Follow-Up queue daily to promote collection, including telephoning payers, messaging, or identifying claims on payer websites.
- Manages account inventory promptly to facilitate payment and resolution as instructed by management.
- Stays current on payer requirements by reading bulletins, reviewing provider handbooks, and accessing relevant websites.
- Processes incoming correspondence, including signature letters, denials, prior authorizations, and additional information for claims processing.
- Records new insurance plans and facilitates account processing for new plans according to pre-billing policies.
- Records accurate notes in the electronic account file, depicting current status, issues, and anticipated resolution date.
- Escalates account management issues to leadership when necessary.
- Keeps leadership informed about contract, payer, or system changes and issues.
- Assigns status codes to accounts for tracking, data gathering, and audits.
- Manages daily credit balance accounts, preparing adjustments or refunds as needed.
- Handles special projects such as high-dollar accounts or accounts over specified thresholds.
- Attends in-house training and classes on billing regulations and compliance issues as requested.
- Maintains productivity standards by payer assignment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Interprets payer contracts and federal/state regulations.
- Prioritizes tasks and manages time efficiently to meet deadlines.
- Handles multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing workload effectively.
- Provides strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Possesses knowledge of medical terminology.
- Operates basic office equipment such as copiers, fax machines, and calculators.
- Familiar with database systems and internet applications.
- Has strong Windows skills and keyboarding proficiency.
- Understands computer-based claims management systems.
