Purpose of the role
Provide technical EHS support, advise on technical EHS matters, and complete complex EHS initiatives for an operational sub-region in delivering against Sims EHS policy, strategies, plans, and goals.
This position requires passing a pre-employment physical, drug test, and background check .
- This job requires frequent daily travel to visit Sims Metal's facility at 21 Japhet Street Houston Texas 77020.
- Approximately one week per month on average, this job requires travel to Sims Metal's facility at 6414 S. Eastern Ave. Oklahoma City Oklahoma 73149
Principal Accountabilities
- Support the implementation and operational understanding of EHS policy and processes
- Provide analysis and insight to facilitate learning and decision-making around health and safety of workers and protection of the environment
- Build and maintain trust-based relationships with all levels in order to facilitate the delivery of EHS objectives and goals
- Understand how work is done in the front-line and across an operational sub-region, including adaptations made to cater for contexts such as goal conflicts use this knowledge to advise on risk controls and procedures
- Work with operations on the effective implementation and use of EHS tools such as Critical Control Verification and Risk Assessment
- Support the development of EHS tools such as unit-specific Standards, Training material, Job Safety Analysis, and Safe Work Procedures
- Support the investigation of significant EHS non-conformances or incidents, and identify and communicate corrective actions
- Provide insight on process hazards and risk rating on incidents, Safe Work Procedures, and Job Safety Analysis.
- Facilitate learning and improvement from significant EHS events
- Work with Operations and Environmental personnel to understand community impacts and look for opportunities for improved environmental protection
- Participate in applicable internal and external audits and provide guidance on corrective actions Support the facilitation of EHS training
- Liaison with regulatory representatives and provide support during inspections or investigations when required.
- Take part in and provide support to local EHS committees
- Provide EHS information to customers and vendors as requested
- Provide subject matter expertise to stakeholder audits where required
- Support the injury management, workers compensation, and return to work process
- Lead site-specific / technical training development and implementation where needed
- Support the review and implementation of appropriate operational emergency management response measures and site teams at the sub-region level.
- Demonstrate personal responsibility for all EHS policies, procedures, and initiatives
- Support diversity and inclusion, positive employee relations, and teamwork
- Support measures designed to manage costs and adherence to budgetary requirements effectively
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and quality requirements
- Comply with all Company policies, procedures, and initiatives relevant to the job Support training and performance management initiatives
Key Performance Indicators (KPI's)
- Inspections (General and Critical Control Verification for Operations and EHS personnel
- EHS training delivered and completed
- Inspections and corrective actions implemented and completed
- Documenting critical risk incidents
- Reported incidents/accidents
- Documenting of lost time incidents
Experience / Qualifications Required
- Bachelors degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Min. of 3-4 years experience in a high-hazard industrial environment, having site-wide responsibility for safety and health issues
- Experience implementing workplace health, safety, and environment management systems
- May include technical and professional certifications such as Industrial Hygiene,
- Workers Compensation management
