Mechanical Design Engineer
with deep technical expertise in refrigeration and dehumidification systems. This role is a hybrid of theoretical design and practical lab validation, ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands-on testing, data analysis, and solving real-world challenges in HVAC-R applications. You will lead the design, development, and lab-based validation of high-performance refrigeration systems, supporting product innovation, certification, and field issue resolution. Key Responsibilities: Lead the development and execution of lab test programs for refrigeration and heat pump systems. Convert design concepts into functional prototypes and test setups, aligning with theoretical models. Establish and maintain lab infrastructure including test rigs, instrumentation, and safety systems. Design and execute test plans to assess system performance, efficiency, and reliability under varying conditions. Analyze and compare test results with simulations, identifying deviations and optimization opportunities. Maintain detailed documentation of testing, data analysis, and certification requirements. Support product certification, field replication testing, and end-of-line factory validation. Collaborate on the design and optimization of HVAC-R systems including dehumidifiers, air conditioners, and heat pumps. Select appropriate refrigeration components balancing performance, cost, and regulatory needs. Perform system-level simulations and performance evaluations using engineering tools. Provide design feedback and actionable guidance to cross-functional teams based on empirical test results. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline. 5+ Years of experience in refrigeration system design and/or lab testing. EPA Section 608 Certification required. Familiarity with ASHRAE and AHRI standards is a plus. Proven experience setting up and managing lab environments and test equipment. Strong foundation in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and HVAC-R systems. Proficiency in simulation and data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, LabVIEW, Excel). Hands-on experience with lab instrumentation, sensors, and automated testing. Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude. Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering and manufacturing teams. Seniority level
