Location: Shanghai, China or Silicon Valley, USA Key Responsibilities System-Level Design Lead the design of end-to-end L4 autonomous driving system architecture, including sensor suites, compute platforms, and software stack. Define the overall system topology, interfaces, and modular design principles to ensure maintainability, scalability, and real-time performance. Requirements Engineering Define and manage system-level and subsystem-level requirements based on functional goals, safety constraints, and regulatory needs. Ensure traceability from high-level product features to low-level implementation. Cross-Domain Coordination Collaborate with perception, localization, planning, control, compute, safety, and hardware teams to ensure cohesive and aligned system design. Serve as a key technical liaison across engineering, safety, and validation teams. Safety & Standards Compliance Work with functional safety experts to align the system with ISO 26262 , SAE J3016 (Level 4) , SOTIF , and relevant cybersecurity standards. Contribute to system hazard analysis, safety goals definition, and safety concept design. Support design of integration workflows for software-in-the-loop (SiL), hardware-in-the-loop (HiL), and vehicle-level testing. Drive the integration of vehicle actuation interfaces, redundant system paths, and fallback strategies. Documentation & Review Develop and maintain system architecture diagrams, design documentation, interface definitions, and requirement specifications. Participate in design reviews, FMEAs, and verification planning. Qualifications S. or Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in autonomous vehicle system design, robotics, or safety-critical system engineering. Deep understanding of system integration, real-time embedded software, and distributed system design. Hands-on knowledge of vehicle networks (CAN, Ethernet, FlexRay), and sensor interfaces (LiDAR, radar, cameras, GNSS/RTK). Familiarity with safety and cybersecurity standards: ISO 26262 , ISO/PAS 21448 (SOTIF) , ISO 21434 . Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with commercial L4 trucking systems or pilot deployments. Exposure to compute platforms such as NVIDIA Orin. Experience with redundancy management, fail-operational system design, and over-the-air update architecture.
