Direct message the job poster from Optomi Senior Cloud and Infrastructure Recruiter at Optomi *Long Term Contract* Hybrid: 3-4x a week onsite in Plano, TX Optomi, in partnership with our premier client in the manufacturing industry, is seeking a seasonedPlatform Engineer to lead the development of scalable, reliable, and secure backend services and cloud infrastructure. This role will focus on enhancing internal developer workflows, reducing operational toil, and embedding best practices across DevOps, reliability, and observability. Job Description: Build reliable, scalable, and secure backend platform services using Java (preferred) or Python, focused on internal developer workflows (e.g., CI/CD, provisioning, bootstrapping). Develop core platform components for our Internal Developer Platform (IDP) to enable self-service and reduce engineering toil. Design and implement cloud infrastructure using Terraform and modern AWS services (e.g., EKS, IAM, Lambda, EC2, S3), adhering to infrastructure-as-code and GitOps best practices. Integrate monitoring, tracing, and alerting tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog, ELK) to enhance platform reliability and observability. Author technical designs, perform code reviews, and contribute to overall engineering quality. Promote operational excellence through proactive incident management, participation in on-call rotations, and leading postmortems to drive improvements. Collaborate with product, security, and operations teams to prioritize and deliver platform capabilities that accelerate innovation and ease developer cognitive load. Evaluate, upgrade, and implement new tools, frameworks, and programming languages (e.g., Java). Assist in creating training and onboarding programs for platform users. Lead team processes using Agile or Kanban workflows. Troubleshoot customer issues as needed, with incident tracking in JIRA and PagerDuty. Required Skills: 10+ years of software engineering experience. 6+ years of backend development experience with Java (preferred) or Python. 6+ years of hands-on experience with AWS and building cloud-native infrastructure. 3+ years deploying and managing Kubernetes workloads, preferably in EKS. Deep expertise in: DevOps & Automation : Building CI/CD pipelines with Terraform, GitLab Runner, or Jenkins. Security : Managing IAM policies, implementing role-based access control, AD integration, and vulnerability scanning. Monitoring & Observability : Using CloudWatch, Datadog, and ELK/Elastic Search. Strong understanding of distributed systems, networking, and systems reliability. Proven track record of technical ownership in complex engineering environments. Comfortable navigating ambiguity and adapting to rapidly evolving requirements, with a strong bias for action.
