Building Materials, Life Safety Products, and Physical Security Technologies (BLST) program . This hybrid role is based in our offices in Evanston, IL, Durham, NC, or Ottawa, CAN. The
Standards Technical Committee Chair (BLST)
will support a diverse portfolio of standards, leading development and implementation of safety standards projects to promote UL Standards & Engagement's mission to make the world safer, more secure, and sustainable. You will leverage your expertise to facilitate standards development, revision, and maintenance, manage technical committees, and support standards activities to enhance safety standards growth. UL Standards & Engagement UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE) has been advancing safety science for over a century, creating standards and sharing findings globally. We focus on critical safety and sustainability issues, fostering a safer world through knowledge. What You’ll Learn And Achieve Lead standards activities to develop, implement, and improve safety standards. Manage the entire project lifecycle from proposal to publication and revision, ensuring standards meet industry needs. Define strategic direction for technical committees, guiding collaboration among industry experts and stakeholders. Facilitate meetings, foster consensus, and drive committee decisions. Identify and onboard diverse technical committee members. Build and maintain relationships with industry, government, and standards organizations. Evaluate new safety standards proposals for relevance and impact. Review drafts, ensure accuracy and adherence to guidelines. Report on activities, maintain records, and prepare presentations. Stay current on industry trends, research, and regulatory requirements. Working at UL Standards & Engagement Collaborate with diverse, respected experts across disciplines and geographies. Ideal Candidate Attributes Broad knowledge of industry or technical area, with understanding of regulatory frameworks and standards. Experience leading technical committees or similar bodies. Strong project management and collaboration skills. Expert problem-solving and communication skills. Ability to foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Strategic thinking and adaptability. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (advanced preferred). At least 7 years of relevant experience. Project management certification (a plus).
