We are seeking a Substitute Circulation Assistant to provide seamless coverage at the front desk when regularly scheduled shifts cannot be filled. Excellent customer service skills, flexibility to work on short notice, and the ability to adapt to a dynamic schedule are essential for success in this role.Under the direct supervision of the Circulation Supervisor, Circulation Assistants perform a variety of tasks, including the circulation and processing of materials, technology assistance, and tasks related to customer service.
Scheduling Expectations:
- Must be available to work at least one shift per month.
- Will be scheduled for one Saturday shift approximately every eight weeks.
- Additional coverage shifts will be available based on front desk scheduling needs.
- Provides front-line customer service, answering questions via email, phone, and in person, and assisting patrons with locating and using library resources.
- Supports technology use, including troubleshooting and assisting with public computers, e-readers, wireless printing, scanning, faxing, and copier use.
- Assists with circulation desk operations, including checking materials in and out, processing holds, creating customer accounts, and collecting fees.
- Maintains confidentiality of patron records and personal information.
- Prepares and processes materials for circulation; repairs, mends, and cleans damaged items as needed.
- Helps maintain an orderly and accessible collection and assists with shelving and straightening materials.
- Participates in daily library operations, including opening and closing routines and cash handling.
- Performs light maintenance tasks in support of building and grounds upkeep.
- Upholds library policies and procedures while delivering cheerful, courteous service.
- High school diploma required; additional education or library experience is a plus.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to follow procedures and manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
- Competence with basic computer functions and the ability to assist others with technology.
- Must be dependable and maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude.
Benefits may be available on a pro-rated basis depending on average weekly hours.
