The School of the Arts is a national leader in training future generations of artists and scholars who will go on to electrify audiences in theaters, galleries and concert hallsas well as in entertainment and technology-related venues. The skilled professionals in the carpenter shop are well prepared to meet the challenging and diverse demands of the campus community.
Your Role on the Team
Under supervision, incumbent will assist in the construction, painting and installation of stage scenery, stage machinery, stage lighting, stage sound, stage costumes, stage properties and peripheral devices necessary to the given setting and in accordance with its designed function within the parameters of a given production styleand instructional focus of the School. May assist in training student crews for shows and perform other duties as assigned.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required:
- Be skilled in the use of standard stationary and hand tools including but not limited to: table saw, radial arm saw, miter box, skill saw, band saw, jig saw, MIG welder, pneumatic tools, drill press and sanders
- A practical ability to read and interpret technical drawings and construction documents in order translate design concepts into safely constructed, stage-ready scenery, props, or other items.
- Knowledge of safe rigging practices for theatrical environments, including fly systems and point rigging.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work at heights, and operate power tools and heavy machinery safely.
- Be open and willing to and be multidisciplinary when needed across all production departments
