The Community Engagement Specialist will serve with Habitat for Humanity McHenry-Lake County as part of the Housing Action Corps, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. Our goal is to create opportunities for homeownership and foster a stronger, more connected community filled with hope. The Community Engagement Specialist will recruit and re-engage volunteers, build relationships with community partners, and increase visibility at local events. They will identify outreach opportunities, refine volunteer engagement strategies, and enhance the volunteer experience across multiple construction sites throughout the year. The ideal candidate is proactive, self-motivated, eager to learn, and passionate about community impact. Since 1989, Habitat for Humanity McHenry-Lake County has built over 200 homes, supported by 70,000+ volunteers, including 750 annually. The VISTA will work with our Community Engagement Manager to enhance volunteer programs, implement communication strategies, collect data, and raise community awareness. Responsibilities include launching and training staff on new volunteer management software, creating follow-up plans to retain volunteers, developing a community event calendar, and coordinating recruitment events.
