Utility Engineering Associate
reviews commercial and residential development plans to ensure compliance with utility standards, manages permitting for the City's right-of-way, and provides technical services in the City's Public Works Department. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reviews commercial and residential subdivision plats and construction plans for compliance with City Codes, Ordinances, and utility infrastructure standards.
Conducts periodic field inspections for all projects being reviewed and under construction. Prepares written technical comment letters for reviews of development applications. Provides information to the public concerning engineering issues in person and on the telephone concerning subdivisions and site development utility engineering requirements, water and wastewater utilities, development permits, and other utility engineering issues. Reviews utility design calculations for right-of-way, subdivision and site development plans. Maintains assigned portions of the computer-based tracking system (MyGovernmentOnline) to show status of all city plat, subdivisions, building permits and construction plan submittals. Conducts commercial site plans and subdivision development review with a focus on utilities, including but not limited to, reviews of subdivision plats, construction plans site development plans, and engineering analyses for compliance with City Codes and design criteria. Assists with management of the public right-of-way through various permitting processes, project development, and site reviews to protect the City's rights-of-way and utilities. Performs site inspections as related to utilities when necessary to support development projects and ROW construction activities. Attends staff, internal and external meetings and predevelopment meetings. Coordinates and processes easement dedications, vacations/releases, and encroachment agreements; and Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college. Major course work in civil,
environmental, water resource planning, or biological and agricultural studies preferred. Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. EIT Certification-preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: City of Cedar Park development ordinances Utility ordinances and construction standards The City's Utility Policy Manual The City of Austin construction standards
Skill/Ability to: Read and interpret information from subdivision plats and construction plans Manage multiple projects Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers Operate standard office equipment including personal computer Demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication Gather, compile, analyze, and evaluate a variety of data; and make sound decisions regarding that data as it applies to providing services Ability to lift to 50 lbs. as needed
