Performs basic customer support activities involving the service, installation, modification, and repair of water distribution equipment and systems. This opening will be filled either as a Laborer or Utility Worker based on experience and certifications. The Laborer is a union position with California American Water and the starting pay rate is $29.40 per hour. This Utility Worker is a union position with California American Water and the starting pay rate is $37.14 per hour. This position may be eligible for annual incentive pay and contracted increases as determined by the collective bargaining agreement, and you will have the opportunity for continued salary growth. Locates main and service lines; installs, repairs and replaces mains and water meters. Tests equipment and notes working order. Notifies customers of scheduled and emergency outages. Performs other duties as assigned. Works under general supervision. Subject to call out, standby duty and emergency after business hours work. Perform meter reads and field investigations. Notice and turn off delinquent accounts. Under specific direction, follows established policies and procedures in conducting service, installation, and repair of equipment to ensure proper working order. Familiar with all aspects of district field activities. May operate heavy machinery including dump truck and backhoe. Knowledge of SCADA and Production Functions. Operates company vehicle according to established safety procedures. High school diploma or equivalent required. One year as a Water Distribution / Serviceperson in the water industry. Valid California Driver's License required; CDL A a plus. CA SWRCB Water Distribution Grade I certification is required for the Utility Worker position. For the Laborer opening, required to obtain the CA SWRCB Water Distribution Grade I certification within 18 months from date of hire. Monday-Thursday: 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM Walk in excess of 6 miles per day in hilly and flat terrain. Able to lift and stack equipment/materials weighing up to 90 pounds. May include but not limited to standing, climbing, walking, lifting, bending, pulling and/or pushing, grasping, reaching, stooping and crouching, sitting, typing, walking, reading, writing, color determination, speaking and listening for extended periods of time.
