The Job Developer plays a critical role in assisting youth ages (16-24) in achieving self-sufficiency by connecting them to sustainable employment opportunities. Reports to the YouthBuild Program Manager. General Summary The Job Developer is responsible for identifying and securing employment opportunities for job seekers, particularly those facing barriers to employment, such as career transitions, long-term unemployment, or disabilities. This role involves building strong relationships with employers, assessing job seekers' qualifications, providing career coaching, and supporting successful job placements. The Job Developer plays a critical role in assisting youth ages (16-24) in achieving self-sufficiency by connecting them to sustainable employment opportunities. Reports to the YouthBuild Program Manager. Principal Duties And Responsibilities Develop and maintain partnerships in the public and private sectors to provide career opportunities that align with YouthBuild students' interests and goals. Assist YouthBuild Staff members and students in identifying and scheduling career-related guest speakers, site visits, job shadow experiences, and informational interviews. Participate in the facilitation of job club. Develop and oversee an internship program for students. Interview students relative to job placements sought. Meet with trainees regularly to learn their job and career goals or immediate needs. Plan and organize job search skills workshops including interviewing, resume preparation, and other skills. Collaborate with Workforce Solutions and Houston Galveston Area Council Workforce Board to market the YouthBuild program to potential employers to connect trainees to an array of employment and career readiness services offered by Workforce Solution (WFS). Ensure trainees are prepared before going to job interviews and conduct follow up assessments and connect trainees with viable job opportunities Network in public and private sectors to promote awareness and enhance the reputation of the YouthBuild programs. Contribute to YouthBuild program refinement in ways that meet employers needs and expectations. Develop and maintain relationships with potential employers across various industries to identify job openings and advocate for program participants. Evaluate job seekers' skills, experience, and career goals to effectively match them with appropriate employment opportunities. Identify and present job postings that align with candidates' qualifications and aspirations. Provide guidance on resume writing, cover letter development, job application processes, and interview preparation. Connect job seekers with vocational training, certification programs, or other resources to enhance employability. Coordinate and participate in job fairs and employer engagement events to create employment opportunities for participants. Monitor the progress of job seekers throughout the hiring process, provide post-placement support, and address any employment-related challenges. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of job seekers, employer contacts, job placements, and related activities in designated tracking systems. Collaborate with community organizations, workforce development agencies, and service providers to expand employment opportunities for participants. Assist in developing and implementing strategic employment initiatives to enhance job placement outcomes. Perform other related duties as assigned to support program objectives. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with job seekers, employers, and community partners. Excellent written and verbal communication with strong presentation skills. Networking abilities to establish and maintain employer relationships across various industries. Career counseling expertise to assess job seekers' strengths and provide tailored career guidance. Labor market knowledge to stay updated on employment trends, industry demands, and job opportunities. Analytical skills to evaluate and match candidate qualifications with suitable job openings. Computer proficiency in job boards, applicant tracking systems, and digital tools to manage employment services. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and efficiently. Ability to work with diverse populations, demonstrating cultural competency and sensitivity. High energy and motivation to help qualified program participants succeed. COMPLEXITY / SCOPE OF WORK Work performed by the employee ranges from the relatively routine to the unusual. The employee identifies work that needs to be done, prioritizes, coordinates efforts, and performs the tasks. Occasionally, the employee must make decisions regarding unusual or sensitive situations and develop new solutions. The employee's work affects other employees and residents throughout the housing developments. Performing work tasks effectively, efficiently, and with compassion. Enhances relationships between the Houston Housing Authority and residents and provides long-term benefits in managing the Houston Housing Authority programs and services, resulting in the self-sufficiency of participating residents. GUIDELINES The employee follows local laws, state and federal regulations and guidelines issued by HUD regarding the YouthBuild program, community services, resident services, and resident initiatives and applicable Houston Housing Authority policies and procedures. When new guidelines are required, the employee develops them in consultation with the YouthBuild Program Manager. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The employee has no supervisory responsibilities. Generally, assignments and instructions come from the YouthBuild Program Manager and are broad, though there are intermittent occasions when the employee receives specific instructions. The employee initiates and performs routine activities without supervisory direction. Problems or situations that arise and are not covered by instructions are handled in consultation with the YouthBuild Program Manager. The employee's work is reviewed regularly for adherence to policies and attainment of objectives. PERSONAL CONTACTS The employee's contacts are primarily with residents and other agencies that aid the YouthBuild program. The purpose of such contacts is to bring community services and tenant services to Houston Housing Authority residents, foster resident pride and participation, and provide various kinds of support and assistance for individual families. PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT The employee's work is performed both indoors and outdoors, and involves numerous visits to housing developments, residents' homes, the offices of other agencies, community centers and meeting halls. The employee may drive agency vehicles, and may be required to push, pull and/or lift objects weighing up to and more than 25 pounds, such as boxes of canned food, tables, or a resident who must be helped into and out of a vehicle. The employee may be required to work unusual hours. The employee may be exposed to weather extremes and to the usual hazards associated with housing developments. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Business or related filed required. At least three years’ experience in job development and placement. Knowledge of the construction industry and major private and public employers in the area. Strong interpersonal skills. Excellent communication skills and the ability to persuasively present programs and training. Experience in planning and conducting training workshops. Additional experience in job development, career counseling, social welfare, and financial management. Bondable. Valid Texas driver's license. Eligibility for Houston Housing Authority fleet auto insurance.
