The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History inspires a thirst for discovery and a passion for the natural world. Position Summary:
Responsible for supporting and maintaining desktops, peripherals and audio-visual systems as well as serving as a help desk for Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, Sea Center and Hillside House computer users. The person will also troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end user training and assistance where required. Specific Responsibilities: Install, upgrade and troubleshoot Windows desktop operating systems. Install and troubleshoot printers (both network and locally attached). Provide support for POS devices (receipt printers, barcode printers, barcode scanners, mag readers). Effectively communicate support issues, programs and status to users as needed. Be a help-desk for employee computer problems with quick email and phone call turnaround times. Train employees on computer hardware and software. Proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite. Setup projectors and laptops for staff presentations in various meeting rooms. Contributes to a positive guest experience by greeting and addressing any questions when encountering guests as they navigate through the Museum and Sea Center. Supports the Museum’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion for fellow staff, guests and the community. Other duties as assigned. Essential Requirements: Working knowledge of common desktop software specifically Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook. Excellent attention to detail. Strong communication and interpersonal skills (both verbal and written). Ability to move computers and other hardware. Good eyesight (acuity, good depth perception, color vision). Good dexterity with an ability to use general hand tools. Ability to work at a computer for long lengths of time, including viewing monitor screens and typing at keyboards. Must hold a valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record, to become an authorized driver of Museum vehicles. Willingness to travel between geographic sites. Work Environment: Standard office environment with occasional time in a basement/closet environment (where main systems are house), throughout the Museum’s facilities (galleries, conference rooms, research laboratories, and exhibit halls) and outside. Frequent sitting, standing, bending, walking, climbing stairs and lifting of moderate to heavy loads (50lbs). Occasional crawling or other physical activities associated with hardware and cabling installation and maintenance. Extended lengths of time spent working at or with computer hardware including viewing monitor screens, and using keyboards, mice etc. (repetitive movement – typing). The incumbent must be able to perform each requirement of the position as outlined in the job description.
