Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment initiative. Eligibility requirements must be met per VHA policy, and applications should be submitted within four months of appointment. The program offers awards up to $200,000, with eligibility periods of one to five years, determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing requirements, candidates may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met initial appointment requirements are considered to have met the basic standards.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only when qualified citizens are unavailable)
- Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
- Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
- Completion of residency training approved by the VA or equivalent
- Residents enrolled in accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), with specific limitations
- Proficiency in English
- Preferred: Internal Medicine/Gastroenterology training and experience
- Physical requirements include visual acuity, hearing, speech, manual dexterity, and ability to perform physical tasks
Duties
- This is an open continuous announcement until September 18, 2025, with initial application cut-off on August 1, 2025, and bi-weekly subsequent cut-offs. Applications received afterward will be considered as vacancies arise.
- Provide clinical support across VA Northern California Health Care System sites, including Sacramento, Martinez, Redding, and Stockton.
- Document clinical work promptly in CPRS, participate in quality assurance, and contribute to medical staff activities and projects.
- Deliver independent gastroenterology care, managing acute and chronic conditions, ordering tests, prescribing medications, and consulting with subspecialty services.
- Focus on preventive medicine, health risk assessments, and chronic disease management.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including advanced techniques suited to expertise.
- Engage in team-based healthcare delivery, ensuring compliance with documentation and communication standards, including tele-health services.
