Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements under the previous standards are deemed qualified.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA Policy.
- Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
- Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification; includes ACGME, AOA, or equivalent non-US programs with five years of verified practice in the U.S.
- Enrolled residents in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed physicians but are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Must be board certified.
- Physical ability to perform all activities of the position without restrictions.
Duties
- This is an open continuous announcement; qualified applicants will be referred weekly.
- Provide healthcare services to veteran patients at Fayetteville VA Coastal Healthcare System.
- Clinical hours are generally from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays and leave, with on-call coverage as needed.
- Perform psychiatric evaluations, medication management, referrals, and outpatient treatment for psychiatric conditions.
- Document all clinical encounters accurately in the CPRS system on the day of service.
- Prescribe medications following formulary guidelines and regulations, with variance only when clinically necessary.
- Coordinate care with specialists and communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team members.
- Maintain licensure and certifications, including BLS, and adhere to VA policies and procedures.
- Provide psychiatric consultation to other services and perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
