Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be tentatively referred and selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to meet the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:- U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable, in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree: Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited medical school.
- Accreditation: Degree obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of graduation.
- Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S. or its territories.
- Residency Training: Completion of residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those accredited by ACGME, AOA, or other programs deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
- Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA residency programs are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed intermittently or on a fee basis. PRPs are not independent practitioners and do not have privileges, but perform certain duties under supervision. Surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.

- Physical Requirements: Capable of performing duties including diagnosis formulation, treatment planning, and resident education. Activities are mostly sedentary. Must be emotionally and mentally stable.
Duties
- This is an open continuous announcement until September 30, 2025, with initial review cutoff on August 5, 2025, and subsequent biweekly cutoffs.
