Civil Service Job Summary
Serves in a trainee capacity, receiving on-and-off-the job training to learn the theories, techniques and methods used in to protect life, prevent accidents, and assist persons in distress; enforces pool safety regulations; maintains pool and pool area; performs pool guard duties under immediate supervision; and performs other related duties as required. Examples of Duties
Examples of duties (the following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position): Attends training sessions and participates in informal discussions, on-the-job training, practice drills and demonstrations concerning the theories, techniques and methods used in to protect life, prevent accidents, and assist persons in distress and first aid procedures and techniques; Familiarizes self with departmental policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; Provides information and assistance to the general public; Maintains the pool and surrounding pool area; Under immediate supervision, performs limited pool guarding duties; and Performs other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications
Training & Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school. License Requirement: Possession of the appropriate licenses or certificates as required of the position, and possession of the following valid certifications prior to completion of probation: American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent; American Red Cross Community Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for the Professional Rescuer Certificate, or certificate of completion of the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider course, or equivalent; American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety Certificate or equivalent. The examination will consist of a qualifying performance evaluation. Please note exams are held ONLY on Kaua'i. We do NOT conduct testing in other jurisdictions. When attending the qualifying performance exam, please be prompt. There will be no admittance if you are late. No spectators are allowed at testing site(s).
