Accounts Payable Specialist
We are looking for an experienced Accounts Payable Specialist to join our team in Goldsboro, North Carolina. This is a contract-to-permanent opportunity with a mission-driven organization dedicated to serving communities, individuals, and families. In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring timely and accurate financial operations while contributing to the broader success of a collaborative accounting team. Responsibilities: Process approximately 150 accounts payable invoices weekly with accuracy and attention to detail. Maintain vendor relationships and ensure timely payments to avoid disruptions in funding. Collaborate with the accounting team to cross-train in areas such as accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger work. Utilize accounting software systems, including ERP platforms and tools like ADP and Concur, to manage financial processes effectively. Assist in coding invoices and reconciling accounts to ensure compliance with organizational standards. Support audits and financial reviews by providing accurate documentation and reports. Learn and adapt to government funding requirements and nonprofit financial operations as needed. Work closely with the controller and senior accountant to identify areas for process improvement. Contribute to maintaining the financial integrity of the organization by adhering to best practices and policies. Requirements: Proven experience in accounts payable with a strong understanding of financial processes. Familiarity with accounting software systems such as Abila, ERP tools, and ADP. Ability to cross-train and learn additional functions like accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to handle high volumes of invoices efficiently. Excellent communication skills for vendor management and team collaboration. Willingness to adapt and learn new processes in a government-funded and nonprofit environment. Knowledge of accrual accounting and auditing practices is preferred. Ability to work 100% onsite in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
