Seeking a team member that is committed to the mission of the central heating plant to provide the entire campus with a constant supply of steam in the most efficient, reliable, and safest way possible. Job summary: Monitors, operates, adjusts, maintains, and repairs a variety of technical equipment for the campus central heating plant. Key Job Responsibilities: Cleans and maintains work areas and equipment Makes regular inspections of plant equipment and prepares equipment malfunction reports Assists in the training and oversight of new employees in these and other safe and efficient plant operational procedures Assists with preventative and corrective maintenance as needed Ensures safe and efficient operation of the plant and its associated equipment May work without direct supervision on shift operations Complies with environmental protection protocols and procedures Adheres to safety protocols and procedures Analyzes data and communicates recommendations on equipment and systems operations, both verbally and in written reports Maintains forms, logs, or reports Starts, stops, and adjusts equipment settings to maintain operational requirements The Central Heating Plant at the University of Wisconsin

Stout has a total available capacity of 202,000 pounds of steam per hour. The plant is staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, year-round: with the exception of an annual shutdown period for maintenance. The Central Heating Plant has the capacity to burn two different types of fuels: natural gas and ultra-low-sulfur fuel oil as emergency backup fuel. The Central Heating Plant is a sub-department of Facilities Management, who's mission is to provide the university and community with the highest quality facilities and physical environment for learning, living, and working, by maximizing available resources and technology. Compensation: Minimum starting salary of $28.00, commensurate with qualifications and experience. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Required Qualifications: Basic knowledge of boiler operation. Basic knowledge of valves, pumps, compressors, fans, and piping systems. Mechanical aptitude including the use of common hand tools.
