We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounting Manager to join our accounting team at a leading commercial general contractor. This individual will play a key role in overseeing general ledger activities, fixed asset accounting, tax compliance, and variance analysis, as well as supporting the month-end and year-end close processes.

This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports, ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on accounting work in a collaborative, project-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day accounting activities, focusing on general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and analyze variance reports to identify discrepancies between actual results and budgets/forecasts, and investigate key drivers.
  • Maintain and track fixed assets, including additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules.
  • Maintain investment accounting records and reconciliations
  • Prepare, review, and file periodic tax compliance documents (e.g., property tax, business licenses) in coordination with external advisors and internal teams.
  • Prepare and review financial reports, schedules, and analyses for internal management and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with the Assistant Controller & Senior Accounting Manager on financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies.
  • Assist with work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and job cost tracking in collaboration with project accounting teams.
  • Support annual audits and tax preparation by preparing schedules and responding to auditor and tax advisor requests.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and system enhancements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in accounting operations.
  • Maintain organized documentation and proper record keeping for all accounting and tax-related activities.

Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Solid understanding of general ledger accounting, financial close processes, and fixed asset accounting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting best practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.

Preferred:

  • Experience with AIA billing, job cost accounting, and WIP schedules.
  • Familiarity with multi-entity or multi-project environments typical of commercial general contractors.
  • Proficiency with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, CMiC) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Exposure to process improvement or accounting systems implementation projects.
  • Primarily office-based role within a collaborative accounting and finance department.
  • Occasional interaction with project teams and other departments.
