Traffic Investigation III
A Traffic Investigation III assigns and reviews the work of traffic investigators engaged in studies for the installation, removal or adjustment of traffic control devices or performs traffic investigation of a complex or sensitive nature. Work of this class involves no supervisory responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek; some evening, weekend and callback work may be required. Work is performed in an office and outdoors where there is occasional exposure to inclement weather and traffic hazards. Work requires minimal physical exertion. Minimum qualifications include: Education: Graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate. Experience: Four years of experience in traffic investigation, enforcement or maintenance and installation work, one year of which must have been in the performance of traffic investigation work. Notes Equivalencies: An equivalent combination of education and experience. Licenses, Registrations and Certificates: A valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit is required. Provisional driver's licenses are not acceptable. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of traffic investigative techniques. Knowledge of traffic control procedures and devices. Knowledge of the major streets and roadways in the City of Baltimore. Ability to give work direction to others. Ability to deal effectively with the public. Ability to read and interpret legislation and regulations. Ability to gather and analyze traffic data. Arithmetic ability. Ability to write narrative reports. Additional information: Background Check: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed. Probation: All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation. Eligibility: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final. Education Accreditation: Applicants' education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency.
