Financial Controller

We are seeking an experienced controller for our family office. This position offers an opportunity to manage complex financial operations across a large number of accounts and make a meaningful impact on our organization. Key Responsibilities Oversee and manage bookkeeping across approximately 70 accounts, using our dedicated software platform. Ensure accuracy and compliance in monthly reconciliations, general ledger entries, and financial record keeping for family, trusts, investment entities, and nonprofit organizations. State Filings (Nonprofit): Prepare and manage state filings, including compliance documentation and annual returns for nonprofit organizations. Coordinate audits and act as liaison with external tax accountants and state agencies. Invoice and Bill Pay: Oversee invoice management, including coding, verification, and payment processing for vendors and service providers. Coordinate and execute bill payments with a high attention to accuracy and internal controls. Reporting and Analysis: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for stakeholders. Track cash flow, investment activity, and prepare ad hoc reports as needed. Process Improvement: Recommend and implement improvements in accounting policies, procedures, and automation tools. Required Skills & Qualifications 5+ years of accounting or financial controller experience (family office or nonprofit sectors strongly preferred). Proficiency in state compliance filings for nonprofits (e.g., Form 990, state charity registration). Advanced experience managing AP/AR, bill pay, and high-volume bookkeeping. Experience with financial software platforms and Excel. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. CPA, MBA, or similar credentials are a plus. Detail-oriented, highly organized, and trustworthy. Preferred Attributes Demonstrated ability to manage complex accounts and workflows. Experience supervising accounting staff and coordinating with external professionals (CPAs, bankers, auditors). Knowledge of nonprofit accounting best practices and compliance requirements.
