Role Overview
The physician will serve as a team leader within our patient care model, which emphasizes a multi-faceted treatment team approach. Opportunities include working across various levels of care in both live and virtual settings, supporting patient admissions, protocol development, quality assurance, and peer reviews. The physician will collaborate with nurse practitioners and physician assistants and oversee residents and fellows during their rotations.
PRN Roles
PRN physicians may be those working elsewhere in the community interested in weekend or part-time support, or moonlighting residents in their third year of residency or higher.
Services
- Attend Patients at the Site:
- Attend to patients and assist with coverage at assigned locations, which may include multiple sites and care levels, including virtual services within licensure scope.
- Conduct medication management, psychiatric evaluations, history and physical assessments.
- Create and update treatment plans, educate patients and families, participate in team meetings, develop discharge plans, and collaborate with other healthcare providers.
- Oversee medical residents and fellows, participate in call schedules, complete documentation within 24 hours, and serve as attending physician as assigned.
- Perform rounds, manage emergency detentions, provide medication education, and meet productivity and documentation standards.
- Attend medical staff meetings and committees.
- Payor Relations:
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with payors, review service denials, coordinate care with referring providers, and ensure compliance with policies including EMTALA.
- Advocate:
- Support the organization through participation in quality improvement activities, community education, and program development.
- Admissions Support:
- Provide placement recommendations, evaluate screening data, communicate professionally, and develop relationships with medical staff and other providers.
Education/Training Requirements
Requirements vary for community providers versus residents or fellows:
- Community providers: Licensed in Wisconsin as MD or DO, board-eligible (certification preferred), completed accredited residency/fellowship, with experience in psychiatric settings, registered with Medicare or eligible.
- Moonlighting Residents/Fellows: Enrolled in a GME residency/fellowship, with at least two years of psychiatric residency completed, licensed in Wisconsin, and registered with Medicare or equivalent, with previous hospital experience preferred.
