Role Overview : The physician will serve as a team leader within our patient care model, based on a multi-faceted treatment team methodology. Physicians may work across various levels of care in both live and virtual environments, supporting patient admissions, protocol development, quality assurance, and peer reviews. Collaboration with nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and oversight of residents and fellows during their rotations are integral parts of the role.

PRN Roles : PRN physicians may include community-based practitioners supporting RBH on weekends or part-time, or moonlighting residents in their third year of residency or higher.

Services :

  1. Attend Patients at the Site:
  • Attend to patients and assist with coverage at assigned locations, which may include multiple sites and levels of care, including virtual services within licensure scope.
  • Conduct medication management, psychiatric evaluations, assessments, history and physicals, treatment plans, patient and family education, and discharge planning.
  • Participate in team meetings, provide oversight for medical residents and fellows, and adhere to documentation standards, including charting within 24 hours.
  • Serve as attending physician, round on patients, and handle emergency detentions as needed.
  • Provide medication education to nursing staff, and participate in in-service treatments and organizational meetings.
  • Payor Relations:
    • Develop and maintain relationships with payors, review service denials, coordinate care with referring providers, and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Advocacy:
    • Support organizational advocacy, participate in quality assurance and performance improvement, and engage in community education on behavioral health.
  • Admissions Support:
    • Provide placement recommendations based on clinical and screening data, evaluate admissions, communicate professionally, and develop relationships with medical staff and other providers.

    Education/Training Requirements :

    Requirements differ for community providers and residents/fellows:

    • Community providers must be licensed in Wisconsin as MD or DO with psychiatry specialization, board-eligible (board certification preferred), with relevant clinical experience and possible leadership or supervisory experience.
    • Moonlighting residents or fellows must be enrolled in a GME-accredited program, with at least two years of psychiatric residency completed, licensed in Wisconsin, and registered with Medicare and other payers.
