The Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development, Division of Insurance, is recruiting for an Office Assistant 2 located in Juneau !

What you will be doing
Under the general direction of the Administrative Officer 2 the incumbent independently performs a variety of administrative tasks in support of the Division of Insurance, Juneau office. Responsibilities include ensuring adequate phone/walk-in reception for main reception desk in Juneau, provide guidance to the Office Assistant I position, inputting payroll for staff members, and the processing of Service of Process (SOP) and Public Records Request within strict regulatory guidelines.

The working environment you can expect:
This position is on the 9th floor of the State Office Building in downtown Juneau, Alaska. The 9th floor also houses other divisions within the Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development. The office consist of floor to ceiling windows that allows natural light to flow in the building. From the 9th floor we can view of the Governor's mansion and Juneau's beautiful mountain ranges.
Who we are looking for:
  • Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Clerical : Knowledge of filing, typing, entering data, maintaining records, taking shorthand, and using and completing forms.
  • Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
  • Customer Service: Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

Due to the recent recruitment hiring freeze, only positions necessary to protect the health and safety of Alaskans and that meet essential State responsibilities will be filled.

High school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.
Substitution:
Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).
Special Note:
"High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.
Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.
Some position in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.At time of interview applicants are requested to submit:
