The
Clinical Nurse – Per Diem
is a Registered Nurse reporting directly to the Clinical Nursing Administrator. The position reports to the
ICU . In collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse is responsible for the safe and effective delivery of patient-centered care to specific patient populations. The nurse demonstrates professionalism, adheres to ANA standards, exemplifies Howard University Hospital CARES values, and fulfills our nursing mission and vision. The role involves collaborating with intra- and interdisciplinary staff to meet patient care goals based on patient needs and hospital standards, participating in educational offerings, and presenting as requested. Per Diem Level III Commitment: Pay: $70/hr Day Shift: 7:30 am - 8:00 am Participating employees will be required to work
three (3) twelve-hour shifts per week , scheduled in four-week cycles. They are not benefits-eligible and do not accrue PTO but may be eligible for compensation under the District of Columbia’s Sick and Safe Leave Act. Employees must work
two weekends per month
and at least every other major holiday, including New Year’s, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, with additional shifts during difficult-to-fill holidays like Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. The Registered Nurse: Assesses, plans, intervenes, and evaluates patient care at the bedside, establishing rapport with patients and families, maintaining confidentiality per HIPAA, and providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support. Documents patient care and outcomes electronically, ensuring continuity among nursing teams. Delegates tasks to non-licensed personnel and participates in performance improvement programs and unit committees. Adheres to infection-control policies, medication procedures, and controlled substance regulations to protect patients and staff. Maintains professional knowledge through ongoing education and participation in professional societies. Performs other related duties as appropriate to the position. Qualifications: Associates Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. Graduate of an accredited nursing school. Current RN license in the District of Columbia. Current BLS and ACLS certifications through AHA; other certifications as required. At least 2 years of ICU experience. Nationally recognized nursing certification in the area is highly desirable.
