We are seeking an experienced
Human Resources Manager
to oversee the full scope of HR operations across our automotive dealership group. This role is a critical partner to leadership, ensuring compliance with federal and California employment laws, supporting employee relations, and driving a positive workplace culture. The HR Manager will manage payroll, benefits administration, and policy development while building strong processes that align with company goals and compliance standards. Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Compliance
Serve as the first point of contact for employee relations issues, providing guidance and resolution in alignment with company policies. Investigate employee complaints, mediate conflicts, and coach managers on effective employee management. Ensure compliance with state and federal employment laws, wage & hour regulations, FMLA/CFRA/PDL, and OSHA/Cal-OSHA requirements. Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in accordance with legal standards. Develop, update, and enforce company policies, procedures, and employee handbook. Payroll & Pay Plans
Oversee semi-monthly payroll processing, ensuring accuracy in earnings, deductions, and tax compliance. Audit timecards and payroll entries for accuracy and adherence to California labor law. Assist in developing and maintaining employee pay plans and incentive structures for sales, service, and support staff. Partner with Accounting to reconcile payroll reports, accruals, and general ledger entries. Benefits Administration
Manage employee benefit programs, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement plans. Conduct annual open enrollment, employee benefit meetings, and ensure proper handling of qualifying life events. Oversee LOA (Leave of Absence) administration, including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, and company leaves. Coordinate with brokers and carriers to resolve benefit or billing issues. Policy Building & Training
Draft and implement HR policies that support compliance and consistency across all dealerships. Develop and conduct manager training on employee relations, compliance, harassment prevention, and performance management. Monitor workplace practices to ensure adherence to HR and compliance standards. Accounting & Reporting
Partner with Accounting and Finance teams on payroll reconciliation, benefits accounting, and accrual tracking. Prepare and distribute required HR compliance reports (EEO-1, ACA, OSHA logs, etc.). Manage audits related to HR, payroll, and benefits. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (preferred). Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in the automotive or retail industry. Strong knowledge of California employment law and compliance requirements. Experience managing payroll and pay plan structures in dealership environments. Proven ability to handle employee relations issues with discretion, fairness, and professionalism. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in HRIS, payroll systems (ADP Workforce Now preferred), and MS Office Suite. SHRM-CP/PHR certification (preferred but not required). Competitive salary range:
$85,000 – $105,000 annually , depending on experience. Paid time off, holidays, and employee discounts.
