Fire Protection Engineer - Causal and Remote! Your work environment at EXP
EXP is seeking a
Fire Protection Engineer
to support projects at our
Chicago Headquarters . This role involves engineering, design, and specification of fire protection systems across governmental, education, commercial, and entertainment sectors, utilizing our flexible hybrid model. What a day at EXP has in store for you
Proficiency in Revit and CAD for fire protection drawings Developing sections, riser diagrams, and elevations of complex equipment and piping areas Creating equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases Determining content of drawings and specs to match project scope Editing specifications to meet project requirements Selecting and scheduling equipment with limited oversight Meeting with vendors to determine specification requirements Evaluating contractor pricing and cost estimates Maintaining the Engineering Book for projects Responding to RFIs and reviewing submittals Managing work planning and design processes across multiple projects Collaborating with team, project managers, and clients to meet project milestones Resolving installation issues on-site Conducting independent site surveys Researching codes to ensure compliance and liaising with code officials Understanding NFPA, IBC, ASHRAE, ASME, OSHA codes, and their variations Writing new specification sections and developing details as needed Applying risk management procedures daily Developing scope of work narratives and writing studies and reports Selecting fire pump and accessories; designing fire pump rooms Directing water flow tests at hydrants or hose connections Applying knowledge of gas suppression, deluge, pre-action systems, and high-rise design Understanding Factory Mutual standards Analyzing fire hazards and designing mitigation strategies Coordinating construction activities Familiarity with building structures and materials Using fire modeling and simulation software Managing projects effectively Conducting fire protection system and risk assessments Experience with wet pipe systems per NFPA 13, NFPA 14 What your experience looks like
4+ years of fire protection design experience in commercial projects across various sectors Degree in Architectural, Mechanical, or Fire Protection Engineering preferred Registered Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) or eligible for registration Proficiency in REVIT MEP and AutoCAD Willingness to travel for client meetings and site visits The pay range for this role is $125,000 to $150,000, with actual compensation based on skills, experience, certifications, and location.
