Intern Bookkeeper/Payroll Specialist
Organization
Terch & Associates, on behalf of Anderson, Kuiti & Asuma (AKA), is seeking an Intern Bookkeeper/Payroll Specialist. AKA specializes in providing professional services to local small businesses across a variety of industries. Interns will gain valuable real-world accounting experience in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Role
As a Bookkeeper/Payroll Specialist Intern, you will work under the supervision of experienced accounting staff to learn the fundamentals of bookkeeping, payroll processing, and basic financial compliance. You will assist with day-to-day accounting tasks, data entry, and software use (QuickBooks Online and Desktop), and have opportunities to observe and participate in payroll runs, sales tax preparation, and client account maintenance. This role is designed to help you build your skills, gain exposure to multiple industries, and understand how professional accounting services operate in a small-business context. This role can have flexibility around class schedules and the academic calendar.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with entering financial transactions into QuickBooks Online and Desktop.
  • Support payroll processing under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Help prepare and organize documentation for sales tax compliance.
  • Maintain organized client files and records.
  • Perform account reconciliations with supervision.
  • Participate in special projects such as catch-up bookkeeping or new client onboarding.
  • Provide general administrative support to the accounting team.
Minimum Requirements
  • Current enrollment in, or recent completion of, an accounting, finance, or business administration program.
  • Familiarity with basic accounting principles.
  • Willingness to learn QuickBooks Online and Desktop.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior coursework or internship experience in bookkeeping or payroll.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and basic spreadsheet functions.
  • Strong communication skills for working with clients and team members.
