The primary responsibilities include organizing and handling surgical instruments, ensuring compliance with standard policies, and maintaining updated records. Essential Job Functions: 1. Instrument Management: Standardizes set-ups and utilizes surgeon preferences. Responsible for the care and handling of instruments, ensuring all instrumentation is neatly organized before returning to the decontamination room. 2. Count Management: Maintains accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments, administering and labeling medications according to established policy. 3. Specimen Handling: Manages specimens in accordance with Operating Room policies and procedures. 4. Contamination Control: Applies knowledge of decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and sanitation processes for instruments and equipment to prevent contamination. 5. Waste Disposal: Effectively removes used equipment and disposes of contaminated needles and syringes at the conclusion of surgical procedures. 6. Team Participation: Engages in team conferences to plan and evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and assists the circulator in revising the care plan. 7. Skills Proficiency: Maintains up-to-date ST skills proficiency checklist by tracking equipment and cases, and participating as a circulator or scrub in various specialty areas. 8. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs, push and pull a minimum of 400 lbs, and stand for the entire length of the shift. 9. Patient Care Adaptation: Assesses the needs of the patient population served and tailors care to meet those needs, ensuring effective communication with patients, parents, and primary caregivers at their level. 10. Compliance: Adheres to standards highlighted in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies. Required Qualifications: - Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as an Operating Room Surgical Technician.- Current BLS certification (American Heart Association).- Experience in General Surgery, Orthopedics, Vascular, Robotics, EMT, and Urology.- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program or equivalent training.
