grade G33 position, in the Office of the Chief of Police.

About The Position

This is an advanced executive level work of a difficult and diverse nature. This is a highly responsible management-level professional, supervisory, and administrative work with the overall responsibility for advising the Assistant Chief and Chief of Police in formulating policies and procedures that provide maximum effectiveness and efficiency in all matters concerning the administrative and operation activities within the Police Department. Work requires extensive coordinative and supervisory skills. Assignments will require the ability to communicate well with others, a high degree of independent judgement action and initiative, and the utilization of the Countys and Departments policies and procedures.

The Prince George's County Police Department is the fourth largest law enforcement agency in Maryland, providing a full range of law enforcement services to County residents and business owners. Their mission is to work in partnership with citizens of Prince George's County towards providing a safe environment and enhancing the quality of life. Today, the Prince George's County Police Department serves over 900,000 residents and has an authorized strength of 1800 officers and 300 civilians.

Examples of Work

Oversees all facets of the daily operations within the Office of the Chief. Provides management-level staff assistance to the Chief/Assistant Chief in establishing goals and objectives consistent with the departments mission and the Countys goals and objectives. Analyses the departments internal policies, procedures, training, personnel and provides resolution alternatives and recommendations. Provides management-level assistance to the Chief/Assistant Chief by coordinating the activities of the department commanders and managers into the development of projects. Directs and coordinates the work of professional, para-professional, technical and clerical positions within the Office of the Chief. Exercises the full range of supervisory duties and responsibilities over subordinate personnel. Confers/coordinates with community organizations, County government entities, municipalities and other police agencies in order to clarify and resolve actual/potential problems. Prepares/coordinates the development and preparation of a variety of reports, data, legislation, briefings, presentations, and responses to community issues. Counsels management in developing and maintaining sound organizational structures, improving management methods and procedures, see to the objective use of personnel, budget, and material; collaborates with Personnel, Budget, Finance, and other departments in finding solutions that arise in the management of an organization. Performs a variety of complex administrative and professional work in planning, coordinating, and managing the implementation, maintenance, and adherence to the departments policy and procedures. Develops and maintains the offices operating budget. Performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description willingly and cooperatively, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employees class of work.

Qualifications

Master's Degree from an accredited College or University in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field such as Criminal Justice, Criminology or Law. Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in governmental activities within a Public Safety agency, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.

Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience

may

also be considered.

Please note there is no equivalency for supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Three (3) years of executive level leadership within a Police agency. Strong knowledge of state and local legislation and laws. Strong communication and administrative skills. Ability to serve as liaison with community organizations, municipalities, and internal and external governmental entities.

Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties, if applicable. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.

The incumbent must meet and maintain the training standards set forth by the Prince Georges County Police Department. The incumbent shall not disseminate information, administrative or operational, unless expressly authorized. Information may not be discussed with other County employees (including individuals in the Police Department), except for work-related reasons, under terms and conditions of the Maryland Public Information Act. The incumbent in this position will be required to sign a confidentiality and/or non-disclosure agreement. The incumbent in this position is deemed essential personnel and is subject to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate.
