Pay Information $2,056 per week About The Position Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Day/Night Rotation Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Surgical experience Post-operative care experience Experience with early ambulation Ability to work effectively in a team setting Description: The unit consists of 30 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night. Common diagnoses and types of patients include total joint replacements, spinal surgeries, urology procedures, abdominal surgeries, bariatrics, and medical overflow. RNs on this unit frequently manage hemo hemovacs and J.P. drains, as well as colostomies. There is no GYN in this unit, and cardiac patients are managed in a telemetry unit. RNs are not required to titrate drips. Occasional drips include heparin, PCA pumps, and TPN. A charge nurse is present on each shift. The charge nurse may occasionally take a low acuity assignment during night shifts. Patient care technicians are available on the unit, with a typical ratio of 1 tech for every 12 patients. RNs assist with troubleshooting respiratory equipment, but the respiratory team performs treatments. There are remote tele packs and monitor technicians to read and interpret telemetry strips. RNs are not required to read their own strips. Shifts run from 0700 to 1930 and from 1900 to 0730. Scheduling is managed by the unit manager, with flexibility for block scheduling as needed. Weekend requirements involve working every other weekend. Holidays will be required as needed. Staff may float to medical and telemetry units to assist with patient care. Scrubs of any color are acceptable for staff. Bedside shift report is expected as part of the nursing practice. The unit promotes a close-knit culture among team members. Candidates should not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any associated facilities. Requests for time off should be made upfront; additional time off requests will not be approved after submission. The facility uses an electronic charting system. A BSN is not required for this position. The trauma level of the facility is 2. This position is within an acute care setting.
