The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night. Common patient diagnoses include total joint replacements, spinal surgeries, urological procedures, and various abdominal surgeries. Bariatrics and medical overflow cases are also managed on this unit. The unit frequently cares for patients with hemo hemovacs, JP drains, colostomies, and occasionally TPN. Nurses are expected to perform bedside shift report as part of the workflow. A charge nurse is present on each shift and may take a low acuity assignment occasionally. There is nursing support available, with a ratio of 1 nurse to every 12 patients. Respiratory therapy equipment is available; however, nurses are only required to troubleshoot. The position involves floating between medical and telemetry care units as needed. Weekend and holiday commitments are required as per the scheduling needs. Block scheduling may be considered to meet unit requirements. The dress code allows for any color scrubs. A close-knit team culture is emphasized within the unit. Candidates must reside within a designated radius. Requests for time off should be submitted upfront. Additional time off requests will not be accommodated after submission.
