HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Power Engineer to join our national Power Generation team. As a Senior Mechanical Power Engineer, you will lead the project mechanical team, coordinate with other engineering disciplines, monitor and communicate project status, and provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both technical and contractual levels.
Typical deliverables include construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates. Experience with power generation systems for simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE projects is preferred.

Responsibilities
Lead the project mechanical team on power generation projects and coordinate with other disciplines; monitor and communicate project status; provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects (technical and contractual).
Take on roles such as lead mechanical engineer and project engineering manager; project management responsibilities may be included depending on the project size and scope.
Deliverables typically include construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates. Project roles vary based on project size and focus, with collaboration across disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design.
Gas turbine, steam turbine and/or large reciprocating engine experience or subject matter expertise.
Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation.
Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm desired.
Minimum 10 years of experience, ideally in the fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects.
Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments.
Excellent communication and analytical skills.
Willing to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs.
Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget.
Travel expectation of less than 10% for client meetings, vendor meetings, and project site visits.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
A minimum of 10 years of experience.
Professional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) license.
Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit).
