Planhat
Overview
Legal Counsel (US) at Planhat. Mission: Power Planhat growth through sharp, strategic legal support. Delivered by a team built to scale faster, close bigger, and think smarter than anyone else.
Team Join a global legal team with the General Counsel based in Stockholm and presence in both EMEA and the US. We are trusted partners across functions, valuing clarity, precision, and execution. No red tape. Just impact.
Role You will apply clear legal thinking to complex business questions and deliver fast, practical guidance that keeps momentum high and barriers low.
You will provide commercial legal support for the business – reviewing and negotiating customer contracts, supporting go-to-market teams, and helping structure how legal enables scale.
You will work closely with the General Counsel and collaborate across Sales, Customer Success, Product, InfoSec, People, and Finance to move deals forward, manage risk, and build what lasts.
You will also contribute to building legal infrastructure: templates, playbooks, and internal tooling, including how Planhat uses legal work to operate across teams.
This is a high-trust, high-responsibility role with autonomy, good judgment, and sharp execution.
You will take on legal challenges ranging from employee matters to corporate governance, privacy, and cross-border issues. You have advised on GDPR, CCPA, AI governance and cross-border privacy, and know how to translate advice into action. You are comfortable supporting ISO audits, HIPAA readiness, and cross-functional compliance initiatives.
Skills & Requirements
JD and US bar admission (California or New York preferred)
5 – 8 years of legal experience, ideally a mix of top-tier law firm and in-house SaaS; strong candidates outside this range may be considered based on judgment, capability, and depth
Strong experience negotiating B2B SaaS agreements and supporting commercial teams. You are an excellent negotiator
Proven expertise advising on GDPR, CCPA, and cross-border privacy compliance
Excellent drafting and written communication skills. Clear, concise, and effective
Strong legal judgment and confidence in making decisions independently
Highly organized, responsive, and solutions oriented
Comfortable working across time zones in a global environment, and owning your priorities
Sharp, curious, and motivated by real world impact
Trajectory At Planhat we want people to grow, create value, and take on more responsibility. We believe in promoting from within and not building layers of hierarchy. You will work directly with the General Counsel, lead critical legal workstreams, and gain visibility into executive-level decision making across the business. This role is ideal for someone who wants to grow a broad legal and compliance skillset and contribute at the heart of a forward-leaning global tech company.
Location Our legal team is hybrid. You will be based in Los Angeles and typically spend at least three days per week in our Malibu office, where you will share space with our CEO and other senior leaders. We work flexibly across time zones and value being present where it matters.
