We are currently hiring for a Transplant Financial Counselor to join a prestigious healthcare institution in Boston, MA. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating the financial clearance process and managing insurance requirements for patients undergoing transplant or Immune Effector Cell (IEC) therapy. Acting as the central point of contact between clinical teams, patients, and insurance providers, you will play a critical role in ensuring smooth, timely authorizations and financial preparedness from evaluation through post-treatment follow-up.

Responsibilities

Receive and process transplant and IEC assignments from clinical teams; conduct benefit reviews and initiate patient registration.

Create patient introduction letters and ensure thorough documentation in medical records.

Verify insurance eligibility and coverage across all stages: evaluation, donor search, treatment, and follow-up.

Submit required documentation for prior authorizations and approvals.

Collaborate with insurance case managers and advocate on behalf of patients when needed.

Keep clinical teams updated on the status of financial clearances to assist with care planning.

Support patients and providers with insurance denials and appeals, including peer-to-peer scheduling.

Educate patients and families on financial obligations, insurance coverage, and available assistance programs.

Present Financial Waivers and Advanced Beneficiary Notices (ABNs) when applicable.

Maintain compliance with billing protocols and payer guidelines, ensuring accurate billing plan records.

Review patient appointments for billing accuracy related to transplant services.

Log all communication, authorization status, and payer updates in the appropriate systems.

Complete assigned work queues, special projects, and administrative tasks as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Health Science, Business, or related field preferred.

Minimum 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting (hospital, clinic, or physician office), including registration, financial counseling, or billing.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office required; experience with Epic or other EMR systems a plus.

Strong knowledge of insurance verification, benefits analysis, and authorization processes preferred.

Familiarity with medical billing codes (ICD-10, CPT), terminology, and payer policies is beneficial.

Understanding of managed care, pre-authorization, and transplant/IEC billing processes.

Experience in hematology, oncology, or cellular therapy services is a plus.

Excellent communication, customer service, and relationship-building skills.

Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
