Landmark Builders is a 20 plus year old Life Science based construction company located in San Jose, CA. The company has grown to an average annual revenue of over $100M in the past five years. The founders have developed a succession plan that includes passing on ownership to the next generation of leadership and hiring the firm’s Controller / Accounting Manager. There is currently an Office Manager/HR/Controller that will be retiring. The new Controller / Accounting Manager will join the company during an exciting period of growth. They will have a unique opportunity to collaborate with the team and further develop the financial processes, controls and forecasting that will help the company continue their trajectory of growth and profitability.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to: Leadership Team

Location: South San Jose, CA.

Candidate Profile:

A current Controller and/or Accounting Manager with construction experience. A problem solving, well-grounded, self-aware individual who fosters communication, is open to new ideas, is a continuous learner and focuses on relationship building will fit into the company’s culture. An undergraduate degree complemented with an MBA and CPA is preferred but not necessary. Thorough understanding of financial controls. Legal and risk/insurance experience along with banking knowledge are desired.

Controller Duties and Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Payroll Accounting: Oversee and assist in all aspects of Payroll Accounting including timecards, workers comp, 401k, quarterly, year-end reporting and setting up for new year.
  • Accounts Payable: Oversee and assist in all aspects of Accounts Payable including GCPay, accounts payable checks, lien releases and the filings of 1099’s.
  • Accounts Receivable: Oversee and perform all aspects of Accounts Receivables including billing packages, tracking outstanding invoices and bank deposits.
  • Banking: Perform all aspects of Banking and Investments including daily/monthly reconciliations and transferring money in all accounts and credit card management.
  • Financials: Perform all aspects including year-end and job costs, adjusting journal entries and reviewing all accounts. Work with outside CPA firm to file and pay taxes.
  • Insurance: Perform all aspects of Insurance including renewals, COI’s, year-end audits, workers comp, general liability, owners COI and subcontractor insurance.
  • Leadership: Build trust, foster accountability, focus on results, maintain clarity across all areas, and consistently provide coaching and training to staff.

Compensation:

Generous base salary 160k and higher depending on multiple individualized factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Separate from the base salary are bonus, health insurance, vehicle allowance, and 401k.
