Overview
IFC — a member of the World Bank Group — is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets. IFC seeks a Manager for its valuation unit (CIRVA), based in Washington, DC, USA, reporting to the Director of Investments and Credit Risk Department (CIR). The Manager will oversee a team responsible for the second-line fair valuation function of IFC’s investments portfolio, including emerging markets equity, funds and debt products, valued at approximately $27 billion. The role involves collaboration with Investment Credit Equity unit (CIREQ), central portfolio management, investment teams across IFC’s global network, portfolio managers, global equity heads, external auditors, and IT partners. The Manager will directly supervise a team of about 14 staff and work with CIR to deliver independent valuations and risk-reward assessments throughout the investment cycle. Duties And Accountabilities
Lead the delivery of quarterly valuations for the IFC investment portfolio, culminating in a quarterly presentation for the relevant approval committee and ensuring compliance with the valuations governance framework. As a second-line function, ensure that valuations prepared by investments portfolio managers are independently assessed; challenge assumptions; and present IFC’s best valuation estimate. Ensure valuation assumptions and methodologies are consistent across the portfolio. In coordination with CIREQ, promptly and accurately reflect material impacts to equity and debt investments in valuations and update watch lists as needed. In coordination with CIREQ, develop valuation frameworks, policies and procedures with other IFC stakeholders. In coordination with CIREQ, lead the preparation and delivery of training materials, lessons learned, case studies, CIR FAQs, and other knowledge management materials related to valuations. Build and maintain strong relationships with IFC’s first-line valuation function, including portfolio managers, global equity heads, and central portfolio management, and with corresponding functions in IFIs to share knowledge and best practices. Participate in and contribute to the Investment and Credit Risk Department leadership team. Mentor and develop the valuation staff and provide administrative and HR oversight. Selection Criteria
Master’s degree in business, finance or equivalent qualification. Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in emerging markets equity and debt valuation. Proven ability to operate under pressure, including managing relationships with external auditors. Strong financial skills with deep expertise in handling complex debt and equity valuations. Experience managing a second-line valuation function with strong collaboration with first-line functions. Strong verbal and written communication skills with different audiences including senior management. Solid knowledge of valuation systems and ability to interface with IT teams. Proven experience in managing and developing teams.
