Overview
Principal Scientist, R&D – ESG/TECH Packaging Kraft Heinz is a global food company focused on innovation, quality, and delivering value to consumers and communities. This role is a Packaging technical position within the Packaging Center Technology Platforms Group, offering the opportunity to lead innovative and disruptive packaging technology platforms across the Kraft Heinz portfolio. This role targets global challenges with accountability for delivering against the Kraft Heinz enterprise model. It is both strategic and tactical, and candidates should be prepared to work hands-on to build out a function and deliver solutions to business units. Responsibilities
Lead innovative and disruptive packaging technology platforms (e.g., Pkg Sustainability & Innovation) instrumental in delivering novel, competitively advantaged, and cost-effective solutions across the portfolio. Research and identify pathways, demonstrate proof of concept, scale up technologies, and transition or commercialize technologies to the business unit. Link technologies to applications with strong technical depth, showing intellectual curiosity, problem solving, leadership, and project management skills. Manage multiple assignments concurrently with autonomy, including mentoring junior packaging researchers. Foster collaboration and apply innovative solutions; build relationships with internal teams and cross-functional partners to define opportunities, timing, and deliverables. Coordinate relationships with suppliers, technology partners, design and innovation partners to drive packaging innovation solutions. Execute design exploration, innovation and research plans; conduct patent/literature reviews; document technologies; perform prototyping, lab testing, consumer testing, and qualification on pilot and/or production equipment. Translate consumer learnings and technical findings into meaningful packaging solutions; communicate results and guide decisions in packaging design and innovation to drive adoption. Act as technical/commercialization expert for junior developers and support projects requiring problem solving. Lead functional training and process improvements for the packaging organization. Present to global teams, senior leadership, and key stakeholders. Maintain a high degree of autonomy in execution. Qualifications
BS/MS/PhD in Packaging, Mechanical, Materials, Chemical Engineering or related field. Minimum 6 years of experience in Packaging Development or Research and commercialization (including graduate work and internships). Expert understanding of packaging materials, functionality, qualification and commercialization of multiple packaging formats; design of experiments; ability to coach others in these areas. Expert understanding of packaging design and innovation; ability to coach others in these areas. Excellent, proven communication, influencing, project/platform management, and problem-solving skills. Strong ability to lead, coach and motivate others; manage multiple assignments concurrently with prioritization for self and others. Willingness to travel 30%. EEO Statement
