Overview Mortenson Engineering is currently seeking a Structural Engineer IV that will be responsible for routine structural and civil engineering assignments involving techniques and principles for renewable energy and substation projects ranging from 4kV to 500kV. Candidate will be responsible for working closely with other engineering disciplines and design team members to coordinate overall design package and requirements. They will be responsible for performing, evaluating, selecting, and applying broad scope of engineering assignments of basic difficulty requiring knowledge in engineering techniques, procedure, and criteria by using judgement in making adaptations and modifications and providing interpretations and conclusions.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the structural engineering aspects on substation design and pursuit projects.

Basic knowledge of Solar, Wind, and Battery Storage structural design and needs.

Works independently on required tasks and work objectives.

Comfortable interfacing and presenting to multiple stakeholders (e.g., customer decision makers, project teams, etc.).

Collects and evaluates data to recommend courses of action.

Develop plans, specifications, and observation reports that are complete, accurate, and in accordance with sound engineering practices and aligned with our customer requirements and Mortenson’s best practice standards.

Performs data analysis and basic engineering tasks for completion of small to large complex projects.

Perform basic engineering calculations required for substation structural designs ranging from 4kV to 500 kV.

Works closely with and guides designers, drafters, and engineers.

Review and approval of equipment vendor drawings and test reports on equipment from manufacturers.

Provide engineering support for proposals, estimating, procurement and construction.

Assist field personnel in resolving unanticipated site conditions and construction issues.

Basic project management and analytical problem-solving skills.

Basic understanding of discipline-specific technical designs, QA/QC procedures, and engineering policies.

Works to develop specific work objectives and relay the work objectives to the team.

Knowledge of engineering principles, business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.

Development and evaluation of the technical requirements for fabrication and construction tender packages.

Review plans and specifications for constructability, and safety.

Working knowledge of or familiarity with software packages: RISA, Lpile, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, etc.

Qualifications

Strong analytical problem-solving skills.

Ability to work in small project groups.

Graduate of a four-year college or university with Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE preferred) with structural electives or related Engineering program. Strongly preferred the degree is from a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by ABET as a professional engineering curriculum.

Civil Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is required.

California PE license preferred.

Proficient in engineering theories, principles, and practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.

Ability to travel up to 10%.

Experience in RISA, Lpile, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, etc. preferred.

Minimum two years related experience preferred.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Pay and Benefits The base pay range for this role is $106,600 - $159,900. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
