The position is a Registered Nurse working at an ambulatory health care center as part of a team with physicians and other healthcare specialists. The position reports to the Supervisory Nurse or designee.

Duties

  • Assess patient care needs through analysis of data gained through interviews, review of health records, patient responses, and consultation with physician and other staff members.
  • Plan and implement nursing care by providing or directing comprehensive nursing care based on assessment of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of patients.
  • Administer therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician (e.g., medications, treatments, intravenous fluids, nasogastric suction, or irrigation, etc.).

Requirements

Background and Basic Qualifications

Education and licensure requirements apply. Applicants must have:

  • Basic Education: A graduate or higher-level degree, Bachelor’s degree, Associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing education program. Licensure: Active license/registration as a professional nurse in a U.S. state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory. All applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
  • Experience: At least one year of specialized experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent (or demonstrated by criteria described under the federal qualification standards). For GS-7 and GS-9, additional experience or education is required as described in the job listing.
  • Other qualifications: U.S. citizenship, Selective Service registration for males born after 12/31/1959, and eligibility for licensure maintenance. Ability to meet time-in-grade requirements where applicable.

Other Requirements

  • Background Investigation: Pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation; continued employment contingent on favorable findings.

Time In Grade

Federal employees in the competitive service are subject to Time-In-Grade requirements unless exempt. Merit Promotion candidates must have one year of service at the next lower grade level unless otherwise stated.
