General Purpose

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring our Customers have a positive shopping experience. The Associate makes eye contact, smiles, and greets all Customers in a courteous and friendly manner, treats fellow Associates with respect, follows company best practices, maintains a clean work area, and ensures proper merchandise presentation. The Associate may perform a range of functions in all areas of the Store as business needs require and may be assigned additional tasks to help achieve customer service and operational goals.

Essential Functions

  • Understands that safety is the number one priority and practices safe behaviors in everything they do.
  • Maintains a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment; keeps exits clear and reports unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
  • Treats all Customers and Associates with respect and courtesy; remains friendly and professional at all times.
  • Assists Customers as needed – is register-trained, assists with merchandise, and answers questions politely and knowledgeably. Greets Customers with eye contact, a smile, and a greeting; says “thank you” at each register transaction.
  • Provides prompt and efficient responses to Customer needs; responds to service calls and escalates to Store Leadership when necessary.
  • Represents and supports the Company brand at all times.
  • Performs cleaning tasks and maintains cleanliness of work areas, restrooms, and high-touch surfaces to support merchandise presentation and team efficiency.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and adheres to the Company dress code.
  • Performs daily sizing and recovery to keep the store neat, organized, and merchandised to standards.
  • Expedites newly received merchandise to the sales floor and adheres to monthly presentation guidelines.
  • Understands the Loss Prevention program and merchandise protection standards.
  • Safeguards confidential information, cash, and merchandise; demonstrates integrity and honesty in all interactions.
  • Follows MOS (Miss Out of Stock) policies and proper processing and disposal procedures as needed.
  • Follows all cash handling, refunds, and payment procedures with accuracy and security.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency to maximize productivity and minimize unnecessary steps.

Qualifications And Special Skills Required

  • Effectively communicate with Customers, Associates and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative and pleasant manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements / ADA

  • Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PCs as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the Store for up to 100% of working time.
  • Ability to bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull and lift more than 25 pounds.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other assigned supplies.
  • Associates who work Stockroom shifts: Ability to regularly push, pull and lift more than 20 pounds.
