Responsibilities

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring customers have a positive shopping experience. The associate makes eye contact, smiles, and greets all Customers in a courteous and friendly manner, treats fellow Associates with respect, follows company best practices, maintains a clean work area at all times, and ensures proper merchandise presentation. The Associate may be assigned to perform a range of tasks in all areas of the Store as business needs require and may perform additional tasks to help achieve customer service and operational goals.

  • Understands that safety is the number one priority and practices safe behaviors in everything they do.
  • Maintains a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment; keeps egress routes clear and reports unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
  • Treats all Customers and Associates with respect and courtesy; remains friendly and professional at all times.
  • Assists Customers: is register-trained, helps with merchandise, and answers questions politely and knowledgeably; greets Customers with eye contact, a smile, and a friendly "hello" throughout the Store and says "thank you" at every register transaction.
  • Provides prompt and efficient responses to Customer inquiries; responds to Customer service calls promptly and escalates to Store Leadership when needed.
  • Represents and supports the Company brand at all times.
  • Performs cleaning tasks to maintain a clean store and work areas (sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters and mirrors, replenishing restroom supplies, disinfecting high-touch areas).
  • Maintains a professional appearance and adheres to the Company's dress code.
  • Performs daily merchandising tasks such as stocking, sizing, and recovery to ensure a neat, clean, and well-organized store at standards.
  • Expedites newly received merchandise to the sales floor, merchandise items per guidelines, and maintains merchandise/brand name familiarity within departments to assist Customers.
  • Understands Loss Prevention policies and merchandise protection standards (MOS) where applicable.
  • Safeguards confidential information, cash, and merchandise as a Ross representative.
  • Follows MOS processing and notification procedures to review and approve disposals.
  • Handles cash, checks, credit/debit, and refunds with accuracy and awareness of bankable tenders.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency to maximize productivity by following Store best practices and streamline workflow.

Qualifications

  • Ability to effectively communicate with Customers, Associates and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative and pleasant manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements / ADA

  • Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PCs as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the Store for up to 100% of working time.
  • Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull and lift more than 25 pounds.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other assigned supplies.
  • Associates who work Stockroom shifts: Ability to regularly push, pull and lift more than 20 pounds.
