Overview
Posting details: Construction Worker III at the University of Georgia. Base pay range: $49,000.00/yr - $55,000.00/yr. Employment type: Full Time. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM. Essential Worker. Some night and/or weekend work may be needed to meet department needs. Open until filled.
Responsibilities
- Operate skid steer, backhoe, excavator, dozer, dump truck, and other equipment as needed for demolition, grading for asphalt and concrete placement, installation and repair of utilities, and other construction activities.
- Stage equipment and trucks on jobsite, establish grade, set base for new construction, and instruct other employees as needed.
- Backfill new construction and maintenance, establish grade and trenches for pipe installation, excavate for underground structures, and assist other shops for repairs.
- Assist in asphalt placement and in the forming and placement of concrete.
- Perform traffic control as needed and respond to Grounds Department emergencies during inclement weather (e.g., tree clearing, snow and ice removal).
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications: Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, formal training programs, or on-the-job training. Evaluation of education/experience may be requested by HR.
- Preferred Qualifications: 3-4 years’ experience operating moderate to heavy construction equipment in civil-related construction and maintenance projects; Class B CDL license; knowledge of CDL rules and regulations; ability to read and interpret civil construction plans; ability to perform manual labor as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience operating construction equipment and reading civil construction plans.
- Proficiency in grading, concrete forming/placement, and safety practices.
Physical Demands
- Stand, walk, stoop, bend, squat, and lift up to 75 lbs. in an 8-hour work day.
- Work under adverse weather conditions; driving as needed to perform duties.
