Overview

Electrician role at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Location: James A. Mountain Inhofe VA Medical Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Work Schedule

Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM or 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of various electrical systems, circuits, equipment and control installation, operation and inter-relationships; including wiring systems, power/control circuits, distribution panels, electrical supplies/devices, and the ability to integrate systems and equipment for proper and safe operation.
  • Knowledge of construction, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance procedures for elevator operational systems (moderate to high speed), dumbwaiter, and leveling ramp systems; troubleshoot and service related components and dispatching systems.
  • Apply electrical principles to design, operate and maintain varied electrical, mechanical, medical, industrial and hospital equipment; understand maintenance and service practices of elevator systems and related trade practices.
  • Determine, arrange, route distribution panels, boxes, circuits, fittings, connections, and controls; install wiring, conduit, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices.
  • Interpret manufacturer parts catalogs and repair manuals to trace circuits, replace/fabricate parts; use test equipment to check electrical circuits and components, and repair connections.
  • Plan and perform troubleshooting, align/balance control networks, adjust safety devices, repair electromechanical parts, and dismantle operational assemblies as needed.
  • Install, test, troubleshoot, modify, connect, repair and maintain the Medical Center’s high voltage underground primary electrical distribution systems and lines.
  • Service complex fire alarm systems including annunciation and monitoring devices such as smoke detectors, fire sprinklers and alarm pull boxes.
  • Install, modify, repair, test, troubleshoot and repair computerized fire alarm systems; install new pull stations, flow switches, smoke detectors, heat detectors, and tamper switches.
  • Work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams and electrical maintenance manuals to plan and lay out routing.
  • Use hand and power tools and electrical/elevator test equipment; plan complex work sequences and select tools/materials/equipment required.
  • Ensure tool, material and equipment security; work with minimal supervision and comply with trade standards and regulatory codes.
  • Trace hard-to-locate defects; complete repairs and modifications with minimal supervision.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • To qualify, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Experience: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience appropriate to perform the duties; resume must detail knowledge, skills and abilities; rated according to OPM standards.
  • Screen-out element: Qualify on the on-line questionnaire questions related to Electric Drawings, Electrical Equipment, Technical Practices, Troubleshooting (Electrical), Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) and ability to work with little supervision.
  • Current/valid Journeyman Electrician License. You may be required to provide a copy if referred for interview.
  • Federal requirements: U.S. citizen; background/suitability investigation; pre-employment physical; drug testing may be required; selective Service registration for males; REAL ID compliant identification after 05/07/2025.
