Job Summary
The Program Manager for First-Gen Initiatives will manage the strategic direction and day-to-day activities that advance first-generation student supports. The position will coordinate efforts across the university and develop a comprehensive strategy to support all first-generation students while advocating to position "first-generation" as a distinct identity and foster a community among students, staff, and faculty who identify as such. Serve as the primary point of contact between the institution and members of FirstGen Forward and other related national organizations and networks. This position will lead various campus work groups focused on the experiences of first-generation students, faculty, and staff. The position will manage a success coaching caseload to support students\' academic, social, and career development.
Manages the day-to-day structure and strategic direction for the First Gen Initiatives.
Collaborates with FIU leadership to develop and enact a bold and innovative vision for university-wide first-generation student initiatives.
Serves as a liaison between campus partners and FirstGen Forward to coordinate efforts across the university and to develop a comprehensive strategy to support all first-generation students
Builds and maintains intentional relationships with academic units and administrative departments to ensure accurate dissemination of information.
Manages various projects and progress monitoring related to the assessment and evaluation of data for first-gen working groups.
Meets with individual students to assess the academic, personal, and career development needs. Refers and connects students with relevant university resources (housing, counseling services, disability resources, tutoring, financial aid, career services, etc.) to ensure that students remain on the path to degree completion.
Maintains awareness of current trends and best practices regarding student outreach and/or retention for first-generation students.
Develops and promotes regular academic, professional, and community-building events that center the strengths, skills, and diverse experiences of first-generation college students.
Manages the planning and execution of FIU\'s annual First-Generation College Celebration.
Recruits, hires, and supervises graduate and undergraduate staff and interns.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor\'s degree in an appropriate specialization and four (4) years of related experience, or Master\'s degree in an appropriate specialization and two (2) years related experience.
Desired Qualifications
Previous experience working with college students, particularly in a student-facing role such as advising, student affairs, or academic support.
Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs, workshops, and events.
Experience in collecting and analyzing data to measure program effectiveness
Understanding of the unique challenges and strengths of first-generation students

Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends and at locations outside of the University
Ability to Travel to FIU Locations and/or FIU Campuses.
