Overview

Legislative Program Assistant position at Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). This position is hybrid and may be subject to change. It is open to current, permanent residents of the State of Colorado. Please note: As of August 27, 2025, a hiring freeze is in effect for the Colorado Executive Branch. What You Will Be Doing

This position supports the Departments advocacy of its policy and fiscal objectives within the Legislative Affairs work unit, under the Senior Director of Legislative Affairs. Responsibilities include tracking legislation proposed for the Colorado General Assembly, communicating status to Department staff and leadership, coordinating feedback from staff, and preparing formal policy positions. The role also helps prepare materials and distribute logistical information for witnesses at legislative hearings, handles constituent and General Assembly requests for information and submission of legislative reports, and manages meeting scheduling for the Legislative Affairs work unit. Residency Requirement

This posting is only open to residents of the State of Colorado at the time of submitting your application. Minimum Qualifications

Experience Only: Five (5) years of relevant experience in public policy, law, public administration, public health, or environmental protection. OR Education And Experience: A combination of related education in public policy, law, public administration, public health, or environmental protection and/or relevant experience equal to five (5) years. This experience must be substantiated within the Work Experience section of your application. See Resume will not be accepted. Part-time work will be prorated. A copy of your transcript must be submitted at the time of application (Unofficial transcripts are acceptable). Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the minimum requirements, the following highly desirable experience and competencies are preferred: Previous experience tracking pending legislation Experience handling large volumes of information and keeping records Experience managing multiple tasks and deadlines Experience organizing meetings and scheduling Experience collaborating with a team to achieve a common goal Conditions Of Employment

The Selection Process

All applications received by the closing will be reviewed against the Minimum Qualifications. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications proceed to the next step. Colorado Revised Statutes require merit-based hiring and promotion through a comparative analysis process. Part of the analysis may include a structured review of your application materials by Subject Matter Experts against the preferred qualifications.
