Join the Department of Health. This position is open to Alaskan Residents only. The position will be filled at the 1, 2, or 3 level, depending on the applicant's qualifications and job experience. What You Will Be Doing:
Your role as a Research Analyst is to support public health initiatives by collecting, analyzing, and reporting data to government agencies, policymakers, researchers, and health facilities to help shape public health policies and practices. You will work with data providers to support the Alaska Electronic Vital Records System and the Vital Statistics Cooperative Program. Responsibilities include ensuring data quality and integrity, running reports, using SAS and R for analysis, and creating research products to disseminate findings. You will respond to data requests and perform other research and analysis projects independently or under the guidance of the Research Unit supervisor. Mission, Values, and Programs

The Alaska Health Analytics and Vital Records Section (HAVRS) administers: The Alaska Electronic Vital Records System (EVRS) — birth, death, fetal death, marriage, divorce, adoption, and induced termination. The Alaska Health Facilities Data Reporting (HFDR) program — inpatient and outpatient discharges. The Alaska Cancer Registry (ACR) — newly diagnosed cancer cases. Benefits

This is an in-person position in Juneau, Alaska, at the Bureau of Vital Statistics office building located at 5441 Commercial Blvd. Parking is free, and the location is a short walk from public transportation. Analysts are assigned a personal cubicle near colleagues in the Research Unit. Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate may possess some or all of the following competencies in addition to minimum qualifications: Research:
Knowledge of scientific principles, methods, and processes used to conduct systematic inquiry, including study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and result reporting. Computer Skills:
Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work. Mathematical Reasoning:

Identifies problems, assesses information accuracy and relevance, and uses judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives. Technical Competence:
Applies formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform the job and advise others on technical issues. Education and/or progressively responsible experience including investigative research or statistical analysis. Research Analyst 3: Analysis and Assessment, Problem Solving, Technical Competence
